Bells at NPC

The Carillon

In 1924, Gordon Lee presented the Carillon to Newnan Presbyterian Church in loving memory of his wife, Olive Emily Berry Lee. Ms. Lee died in Newnan on Nov. 1, 1922. The carillon includes 15 bells, each of which carries a unique inscription.

The first is inscribed in memory of Olive Lee while the bell two notes the date the church was organized and lists its pastors through 1924. The other bells include passages of Scripture or lyrics from selected songs.

For more than 60 years, Mr. Theron Welch played the carillon every Sunday.  In 2002, the bells began to ring again with John Lambert at the keyboard.

The Hand Bells

In 1965, Newnan Presbyterian was once again the recipient of a fine set of bells. For several years, Virginia Dillard, wife of Rev. Herman Dillard, served as bell choir director.

The hand bells were then silent for a number of years, but now ring out again. The Celebration Ringers Hand Bell Choir offers beginners as well as skilled bell ringers the opportunity to celebrate worship with a joyful noise.
