Presbyterian Women

Glorify the Lord; Let us exalt His name together

Presbyterian Women join in fellowship, Bible study, prayer, and ministry for each other, those in the community, and friends far beyond our hometown. Through a variety of activities, Presbyterian Women offers a greater opportunity to get to know other women in Newnan Presbyterian and to work together to support and fulfill our Christian faith.

Purpose

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, Presbyterian Women commit:

  • To nurture faith through prayer and Bible study,
  • To support the mission of the church worldwide,
  • To work for justice and peace, and
  • To build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.

What is a Circle?

All adult women of Newnan Presbyterian are invited to join one of several small groups, called circles. A circle is an inclusive, caring community of women where:

  • Faith is nurtured, and growth takes place through worship, study, fellowship, and outreach.
  • Women are challenged to stretch beyond their limits.
  • Women move beyond the safe places of life and reach out to others.
  • Christian leadership is born, cultivated, and sent forth into ministry.

Opportunities to Serve

Boxes for college students
The Presbyterian Women periodically send a box of goodies to college freshmen of the church as a way of remembering them while they are away from home.

Fellowship of the Least Coin
Each month during the circle meetings we gather a collection of the smallest coins in our change purses for worldwide mission projects. These coins become a sign of our oneness with the world and our common quest for peace, justice and reconciliation.

Thank Offering
The Thank Offering is a special gift that Presbyterian Women give as a tangible expression of gratitude for the special blessings in our lives. The offering may represent a one-time gift or it may be an accumulation of money saved through the year. Forty percent of this offering sustains medical missions throughout the world, and the remaining sixty percent supports new, creative ideas of mission.

Birthday Offering
This offering, normally received in the spring, celebrates the birthday of the Women of the Church. Over 15 million dollars have been given to mission needs through this offering. These funds support predetermined projects selected annually by the Creative Ministries Offering Committee. The typical offering is equal to the age of the woman in pennies.

Missions Projects
Each year some circle members help with a mission project selected by Presbyterian Women International. In recent years we have sewed mosquito nets as a project designated for our church's mission hospitals and clinics.

Flowers for Babies
Presbyterian women honor the arrival of each newborn in our congregation by placing a rose on the pulpit for Sunday morning worship.

Hospitality
Presbyterian Women sponsor special functions such as an ecumenical, community-wide luncheon during the Lenten season.

Honorary Life Membership
This honor is conferred upon an individual in recognition of faithful service in some area of the Church's work. Moderators, presidents, leaders, teachers, officers, pastors, and missionaries have been among recipients of this honor.
