Honor Our Past. Prepare For Our Future.

In 2028, Newnan Presbyterian Church will celebrate its bicentennial. As we approach this milestone, we reflect on the faith and dedication of those who came before us and consider the legacy we will leave for future generations. Our church is committed to preserving its rich heritage while investing in the future. To that end, our sanctuary requires renovations to protect its historic character and enhance its ability to serve generations to come.

As part of our Two Centuries Strong Campaign, we are raising funds for the following projects:

  • Repairing tornado damage, including major roof work and the restoration of sanctuary plaster
  • Restoring the stained-glass windows to increase clarity and brightness by 30 percent
  • Repairing the 15-bell chimes that have sounded from the church tower since 1924
  • Painting and repairs to the sanctuary building, upgrades to the audio system, refinishing the pews and flooring, and replacing pew cushions; upgrading the lighting and the HVAC
  • Replacing the organ
  • Improving accessibility and functionality in the chancel while preserving its majestic beauty, enabling more members to participate in worship

To learn more about these projects, we invite you to check out the links below. Thank you for helping us preserve our past and prepare the way forward!

  • What are the benefits of improving the lighting, sound system, and HVAC?

Improving these systems will allow everyone to fully participate in worship. Many members report that the lighting is currently too dim to read bulletins and other materials. Several members—especially older adults and those with hearing challenges—have difficulty hearing or understanding speakers. The current HVAC system creates uneven temperatures, with cold air concentrated at the front and inadequate airflow in the rear. More targeted lighting, improved sound clarity, and balanced air distribution will make the sanctuary more comfortable, accessible, and welcoming for all.

  • Have church members requested improvements in these systems?

Yes - these improvements have been strongly requested. Many members, including worship leaders such as choir members, have reported discomfort or difficulty that could be addressed through these upgrades.

  • What are the benefits of making adjustments to the chancel?

The proposed changes offer several important benefits:

    • Safety and accessibility: The current steps make it unsafe for some people to reach the pulpit.
    • ADA access: Currently, individuals with disabilities entering from the rear cannot access the sanctuary. A ramp would resolve this.
    • Improved space: Widening the chancel would better accommodate the choir in the choir loft.
    • Increased participation: These changes reduce physical barriers that have forced some members to limit or stop in-person worship, allowing people to continue leading, worshiping, and participating as they age or face health challenges.

  • How do we use endowment funds?

The church has five endowment funds. Each endowment is managed separately and has bylaws or donor guidance that govern how the funds can be used. In some cases, the donor or family is involved in recommendations. The endowment funds support the church in fulfilling its mission. All endowments support needs beyond normal operating expenses, and committees are generally interested in high-impact proposals.
