Joan Henderson Neil, 91, of Newnan, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 13, 2026. Joan shared 69 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, LT Col. (retired) Arthur G. Neil, Jr. As a proud Army wife, she embraced the adventure of military life, traveling the world alongside Art and her children, creating lifelong memories wherever they were stationed.

A devoted volunteer for many years at Newnan Hospital, Joan brightened the lives of countless patients, visitors, and staff with her warm smile, infectious laughter, and gift for storytelling. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome.

Above all, Joan cherished her family and her faith. She was a faithful member of Newnan Presbyterian Church, where she found joy in worship, fellowship, and serving others. Her kindness, generosity, humor, and unwavering love for those around her will be remembered always.

Joan's legacy lives on through the many lives she touched with her compassion, grace, and joyful spirit.

She is survived by her sons, Richard Neil and Robert Neil (Denise), and her daughter, Donna Neil Schmitter (Robert).

She also leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren: Nicole Neil (Chris); Ricky Neil (Melanie Ann); Ryan Marie Scott (Taylor); John Weston Arthur Schmitter; Chandler Mae Daigle (Joshua); Laci Kirby (Tommy).

A memorial service will be held at Newnan Presbyterian Church in the fellowship hall on September 26, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. David Jones officiating. Interment of Joan's cremated remains will be at Georgia National Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed through the family at www.mckoon.com.
